Greenwood, SC – The Fayetteville State University men's basketball team suffered a 75-64 loss to Armstrong State University on Saturday, November 26th in the Finis Horne Holiday Classic at Horne Arena. FSU moves to 3-4 overall, while the Pirates improve to 4-2 in the standings.
This game featured seven lead changes and four ties, including a 30-30 score with 48 seconds remaining in the first half. Senior forward Michael Tyson (Kinston, NC) made a jumper to knot things up. George Brown hit a three-pointer on the ensuing offensive possession to account for the 33-30 halftime lead for Armstrong State.
Tyson had 11 points at the break, followed by redshirt freshman guard Josh Bryant (Fayetteville, NC) with six points.
Redshirt junior guard Carl McCray (Roper, NC) opened the second half with a three-pointer to tie the game 33-33. The Pirates responded with eight unanswered points over the next minute and a half. Fayetteville State trailed 56-45 with 11:12 left to play.
The Broncos ignited a 7-0 run to draw within two possessions (56-52) with 7:43 on the clock. Armstrong State managed to push the lead back to double digits and secured the win at the foul line. ASU outscored Fayetteville State 42-34 in the second half.
Tyson ended the evening with a game-high 20 points, along with six rebounds. Bryant finished with 10 points, five boards, and three assists. Senior forward Dont'e Reynolds (Kinston, NC) added 12 rebounds, eight points, and seven assists.
The Pirates had five scored double figures led by K.J. James with 19 points. Jamison Jeffers and Montrel Goldston chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Fayetteville State returns to action on Thursday, December 1st against Morris College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Sumter, SC.
