JCSU Men's Basketball Drubs Bluefield State, 85-58
Charlotte, N.C. (Nov. 18, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team got a game-high 18 points from junior Gabon Williams and never trailed en route to a convincing 85-58 win over Bluefield State in the JCSU Tip-Off Classic at Brayboy Gym on Friday evening.
Williams, a junior product from Charlotte scored 18 points and hit four three pointers, to help the Golden Bulls lead wire-to-wire over the Blues. Williams finished the night shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Also scoring in double figures was Richard Chapman (Newark, N.J.) with 12 and Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) with 10.
Christian Williams (Chesapeake, Va.), Malik Ford (Salisbury, N.C.), and Christian Kirchman (Roanoke, Va.) each had eight points in the win. Kirchman also had 11 assists on the evening.
Collectively, JCSU shot 49.1% from the field (27-of-55) and 54.5% (6-of-11) from long range. They also forced 20 Bluefield State turnovers, converting those into 19 points. JCSU also forced the issue inside, pounding out 38 points in the paint.
BSC got 18 points from Marcus Richardson and 13 from Julian Hernandez in the loss.
The win improves JCSU to 2-1 on the season while Bluefield State falls to 0-3.
JCSU will return to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 4:00 p.m., hosting Felician University in the final game of the JCSU Tip-Off Classic.
