Virginia Union University's Ray Anderson hit a mid-court shot at the buzzer to lift VUU to an 86-83 win over host West Virginia State University on Friday, November 11, in Institute, W.V., in the season-opener for both teams.
West Virginia State had tied the game at 83-83 with a basket with four seconds left, Anderson then brought the ball up the court and launched his game-winner.
Anderson finished with 30 points in the game.
VUU's Kevon Cooley had 14 points and led the Panthers with nine rebounds.
Virginia Union's James Paige also scored 14 points in the win while teammate Tavon Mealey had 11 points.
Virginia Union is now 1-0 while West Virginia State dropped to 0-1.
Virginia Union now plays University of Virginia-Wise on Saturday, November 12, on the second day of the Earl Lloyd Classic in Institute, Va.
