Player of the Week - Notes of Interest:

Medley had a stellar effort this week, scoring 47 total points and averaging 23.5 points per game. She scored 27 points against Johnson C. Smith, one of the top defensive teams in the CIAA. With the effort, she came within one point of tying a career-high in scoring. She also added eight rebounds in the game.

Newcomer of the Week - Notes of Interest:

Harris had two outstanding games in Shaw's critical victories in the CIAA's Southern Division this week. In Shaw's matchup against Johnson C. Smith, Harris made her presence known with 17 points and 15 rebounds as well as two blocked shots. Against Fayetteville State, she had 11 points and two rebounds.

Rookie of the Week - Notes of Interest:

VUU's Ashle Freeman scored 24 points, including going 11 of 15 from the free throw line, and helped lead the Lady Panthers to an 85-76 win over Lincoln University. 

 

COACH OF THE WEEK

Jacques Curtis, Shaw University 
Jacques Curtis led his Lady Bears to two critical divisional wins this past week. The Lady Bears avenged an earlier loss to Johnson C. Smith with a dominating 86-56 win over the Lady Golden Bulls, taking sole possession of first place in the division. Shaw solidified that lead on Saturday as they downed Fayetteville State 80-70.

Mitchell scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed six rebounds in a win for the Trojans against Elizabeth City State.  Kenny went a perfect 10 for 10 from the field and made 8 of 13 shots from the free-throw line. Kenny has scored in double-figures in every CIAA conference game for Virginia State this season.

Rookie of the Week - Notes of Interest:

Kyree Bethel led all scorers with 19 points in a tough 62-58 loss to Virginia Union at home on February 13th.  The freshman played all 40 minutes of the contest and hit 4-10 from three-point land. He was also perfect from the foul line at 3-3.

 

COACH OF THE WEEK

Luqman Jaaber, Virginia Union University
Coach Jaaber guided Virginia Union to two wins this past week, and now has the Panthers in sole possession of first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA. VUU has won nine of their last 10 games.
