Former Viking Basketball Player named Assistant Coach at Brown University

A 1994 Graduate of ECSU, Lamar Barrett Played Three Seasons For the Vikings

Providence, RI- Lamar Barrett, a former member of the Elizabeth City State University basketball team, has been named an assistant men’s basketball coach at Brown University.

Both Barrett and current head men’s basketball coach Shawn Walker played for Dr. Claudie Mackey, currently a Professor in the Department of Education and ECSU Faculty Athletic Representative, from 1991 to 1994.

Barrett most recently served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Central Connecticut from 2003-2005, and New Haven from 2005-2006. He was also the head assistant coach at the Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland from 1997-2003, winning three Prince George's County 4A Championships and two Maryland State Championships.

Barrett is one of three assistants under new Brown coach Jesse Agel, who was named the Bears’ coach in June of this year.

Coach Barrett graduated from Elizabeth City State in 1994 with a BS in Business Administration.
