JCSU Golf Claims Top Spot in JCSU Fall Invitational

Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2016) – Johnson C. Smith University had four players place inside the top-five including sophomore DeJuan Powell, who fired a 1-under par 71 to take top honors at the JCSU Fall Invitational on Thursday afternoon at Larkhaven Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Powell, an Atlanta, Ga. product, had a phenomenal round, finishing with three birdies and one eagle, with that being on the par 4, 418-yard fourth hole, which ranks as the most difficult hole in the tournament. Powell’s 71 is a new career low and is his first career collegiate round under par.

Also having good rounds were Joshua Steger (Charlotte, N.C.),
Glenn Canty (Durham, N.C.)
and freshman Tyler Jolly (Augusta, Ga.).  Steger finished in third place with an 86, while Canty finished one stroke behind him with an 87. Jolly recorded a 92 in his first collegiate round and JCSU’s home course.

As a team, JCSU finished 85 strokes ahead of Paine College.
