Glen Allen, VA (April 11, 2017) – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) will host its 2017 Golf Championships in Glen Allen, Virginia on Thursday, April 13 – Friday, April 14. Eight (8) CIAA men’s golf teams will compete for the 2017 Championship Title at The Crossings Golf Club.
The CIAA Golf Championships opening ceremony is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday while teams will tee off for Round One at 10:00 a.m. Friday will feature Round Two beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the championship awards ceremony held at the conclusion of competition.
This season, Virginia Union University swept both the Northern and Southern Division Tournaments with two-day team scores of 611 and 625, respectively. Reigning Champion Chowan University enters the championship ranked second, with a total of 1,250 strokes (four-round score total). The Blue Bears of Livingstone College, currently rank third behind the Hawks with a four-round team average of 314.5. The Panthers of Virginia Union are seeking their first championship title since 1971, which concluded a five-year winning streak.

Individually, Billy Britton of Chowan earned low medalist honors in the Southern Division and ranked 2nd in the Northern Division Tournament, scoring a two-day total of 149 in both events. Britton, a senior from Conway, NC, currently leads all CIAA golf student-athletes with a 74.5 average in four rounds and 298 strokes. In last year's tournament, he finished in eleventh place with a 163 (+19).
Close behind is Virginia Union’s sophomore, Allan Day. Day ranked first in the Northern Division Tournament and second in the Southern Division, with scores of 147 and 149, respectively, for an average of 74.75 per round.
