Fayetteville State Golf Opens 2017 Season at the Blue Bears Invitiational

Fayetteville, NC (March 3, 2017) – The Fayetteville State University men’s golf team will open the 2017 season as participants in the Blue Bears Golf Invitational held Monday, March 6th at the Warrior Golf Club in China Grove, NC. The Broncos will compete in five events this year before the CIAA Golf Championships scheduled for April 12-14 in Glen Allen, VA.

Sophomore Isaiah Shaw (Altamonte Springs, FL), sophomore Christian Villanueva (Fayetteville, NC), and junior Austen Parlett (Hope Mills, NC) are the experienced, returning lettermen for the Broncos. Shaw earned a spot on the 2016 All-CIAA Team as a true freshman.

Sophomore Adam Capps (Salemburg, NC), freshman Zachary Jacobs (Clayton, NC), and Nick Pennix (Mebane, NC) are the newcomers for FSU. Pennix redshirted during the 2016 season.

After the season opening invitational hosted by Livingstone, FSU will participate in the Saint Augustine’s Invitational in Raleigh, NC from March 12-14. The Broncos return to the Warrior Golf Club for the CIAA Southern Divisional Championship hosted by Livingstone from March 19-21.

Chowan will host the CIAA Northern Divisional Championship from March 26-28 in Murfreesboro, NC. Fayetteville State will travel to Elizabeth City, NC the following week for the ECSU Invitational hosted by Elizabeth City State on April 7-9.

The postseason begins with the CIAA Golf Championships held April 12-14 in Glen Allen, VA. After a few weeks break, FSU will conclude the year at the PGA National Minority Championships held in Port St. Lucie, FL on May 11-14.

In 2016, Fayetteville State won the CIAA Southern Divisional while placing third in the CIAA North Divisional and CIAA Championships. FSU also finished fourth in the PGA National Minority Championships.
