Chinn of FSU Men's Golf Places in Top 50 at NCAA Super Region

Baldwinsville, NY – Fayetteville State University sophomore men’s golfer Jared Chinn (Ft. Bragg, NC) finished tied for 49th in a field of 108 in the 2016 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional held at the par-72, 6739-yard Timber Banks Golf Club May 2-4. Chinn had a total score of 234 (+18) on the 54-hole regional.

Chinn shot 83 (+11) in the opening round. He improved by nine strokes for a day two score of 74 (+2); his best round of the event. Chinn fired five strokes above par for a final round score of 77.
In addition to individual competition, St. Thomas Aquinas College won the team competition with a 33-over par 897. The Spartans opened the tournament with a 306 to land in second place, fired a two-over 290 on Tuesday to take over first place and then captured the title by six shots with a 301 on Wednesday. 

Christopher Gentle of St. Thomas Aquinas earned medalist honors with a three-under par 213 after turning in scores of 77, 64 and 72.

Chinn represented the CIAA as the 2016 Golfer of the Year with an average of 74.5 per round this season. Chinn won the individual low medalist honors at the CIAA Southern and Northern Divisional Tournaments earlier this year. 

The top five teams from the Regional advanced to the 20-team NCAA Championship on May 17-21 at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colo., while the top two individuals not with a team advancing to the Championship also advance.

Fayetteville State men’s golf will travel to Port St. Lucie, FL for the 30th annual PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships. Competition will begin on Friday, May 6th at the PGA Golf Club and conclude on Sunday, May 8th. The Broncos have placed fifth in the event the last three season. FSU won their last PGA Minority Championship in 2012.
