Chowan University, Chinn, & Harrison Advance to NCAA Regional Golf Tournament

Charlotte, NC (April 25, 2016) – The 2016 CIAA Golf Champion Chowan University and two individual student-athletes will compete in the NCAA Division II Men’s Atlantic/East Super Regional Golf Tournament May 2 – 4, 2016 at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, New York.

Tee-off for Chowan and the two individual CIAA golfers, Jared Chinn of Fayetteville State University and Philip Harrison of Livingstone College, is slated for 12.50 a.m. on Monday, May 2nd and 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday.  Teams and individual participants will be re-seeded according to their score following the second round for the final day of competition.

The Hawks of Chowan University captured their first-ever CIAA title during the 2016 Golf Championship on April 15th at Larkhaven Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The Hawks went in to the championship as the No. 1 seed after having won the North Division Tournament.   Chowan hoisted the trophy after shooting a two-day score of 634, finishing six strokes ahead of defending champion Livingstone College.

Jared Chinn and Philip Harrison will advance to the Men’s Regional Golf Tournament as individual participants.  Chinn, CIAA Golfer of the Year, shot a 152 (75, 77, +8) during the Championship Tournament and earned Low Medalist honors in both the North & South Division Tournaments for a No. 1 regular season individual ranking (72.3 avg.).

Harrison was named Low Medalist of the CIAA Golf Championship with a two-day score of 151 (73, 78, +7).  Harrison earned a No. 2 individual ranking in the regular season with an average of 76.3.

The NCAA Division II Men’s Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament is comprised of four regional sites in which two regions meet to conduct tournament play.  The tournament pairings are as follows: Atlantic/East, Central/Midwest, South/Southwest, and South Central/ West.  The top five teams and top two individual student-athletes (who do not compete for a top five team) from each regional tournament will advance to the golf finals May 17th-21st at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colorado.
