Hawks Finish 12th at St. James Plantation Invitational

SOUTHPORT, NC- The Chowan University men's golf team completed the second and final round of play at the St. James Plantation Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  The Hawks finished in 12th place out of 13 teams that competed in the tournament.  After posting a team score of 363 in the opening round of play, Chowan recovered to shave 28 strokes off of Friday's score with a 335 on Saturday.

Bentley took home first place team honors with a two-day team score of 636, narrowly defeating West Chester who combined for a two-round score of 637.  Individually, Matt Barto from Gannon University led the 87 golfer field after carding a 71 on Saturday.  His second round score combined with Friday's score of 78 contributed to a four-stroke lead for first place honors. 

After battling 18 mile per hour winds on Friday, the Hawks showed improvement and resilience in their second round scores.  Sean Wilson paced the Hawks with a second round score of 81 after carding an 88 in the opening day of play.  Wilson ended the tournament in a four-way tie for 42nd place. Billy Britton competed for the Hawks on Saturday and carded an 82 for the Chowan Blue and White.   

 Rich Edwards shaved six strokes off his first round score (91) and shot an 85 on Saturday.  Edwards' score left him in a three-way tied for 63rd place.  Jordan Francis rounded out the scoring for the Hawks.  He battled back on Saturday to card an 87, an eight-stroke improvement from Friday's score (95). 

Ryan Baker also competed for the Hawks and finished in 66th place for the Hawks.  He shot an 88 on Saturday and shaved one stroke off of his first round score. 

Chowan returns to action and CIAA play March 22nd-24th when the Hawks compete in the CIAA Northern.
