Charlotte, NC - Johnson C. Smith University head football coach Steven Aycock has been selected along with his staff to coach the North team in the 2012 FCS Senior Scout Bowl presented by the Collegiate Development Football League. The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 15th at 5:00 p.m. inside the Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) is proud to present this exciting opportunity to showcase the FCS Senior Football Bowl. The FCS Senior Football Bowl will bring players who represent 124 FCS Division football programs, to a North vs. South format all-star game. These players will have earned the honor to play against their best peers in a showcase for scouts and fans to recognize their talent.
Golden Bull seniors Rashad Dukes (Charlotte, NC), Matthew Jeffries (Gainesville, GA), Derrick Johnson II (Charlotte, NC), Jordan Mosely (Columbia, SC), and Darryl Rankin (Charlotte, NC) will all participate in the contest as players for the North team.
Aycock and his coaching staff led JCSU a record of 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the CIAA this season. The Golden Bulls achieved their second winning season for the first time since 1972-73. The team also concluded the season on a four-game winning streak; this is the longest win streak since 1996.
Aycock, who will serve as the head coach, will be joined by Steve Shipp (Offensive Coordinator), Marshall Banks (Defensive Line Coach), James Lott (Secondary and Special Teams Coach), Sekou Canty (Defensive Line Asst. Coach), Marques Reese (Tight Ends Coach), and Nick Mata (Wide Receivers Coach) in attempting to coach the North Team to victory.
“This is a great opportunity for Johnson C. Smith University and our young men to showcase their talents against their peers from all over the country,” stated Aycock. “I’m excited for my staff and I to get this chance to demonstrate our coaching abilities as we continue to progress our careers.”
In addition to JCSU, there will be student-athletes participating from institutions such as Alcorn State, Buffalo State, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, Furman, Grambling, Hampton, Harvard, Howard, North Carolina A&T, and North Carolina Central just to list a few.
There will be a pregame banquet to honor the players and coaching staffs selected to participate in the 2012 game on Friday, December 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Convention Center. A media presentation honoring the players along with coach’s comments will be a part of the festivities. Each player will be recognized and presented with his game jersey at the banquet.
