Shaw's Evans Earns MNYFWA Specialty Player of the Week Honor

RALEIGH, N.C.  - The Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association has named Shaw's Darnell Evans its Division II Specialty Player of the Week in recognition for his performance in Shaw's 35-20 loss to Johnson C. Smith.

Evans (CB/PR/KR, 5-9, 181, Jr., Madison, N.J.) scored two of Shaw's three touchdowns on Saturday.  In the opening quarter, he picked off a pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown.  In the fourth quarter, Evans took a JCSU kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.  Evans led the team in all-purpose yards with 125.

The MNYFWA honors athletes playing in or from Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Bears host #2 Winston-Salem State this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  The game will be played at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
