November 2, 2011
Wide receiver Brian Richards (Redshirt Soph./Waldorf, Md.) of
Saint Augustine’s College gained national recognition
Wednesday (Nov. 2) for his big-time football performance against
Livingstone College.
Richards, who majors in human performance & wellness, won the Division II national player of the week award by Heritage Sports Radio Network in a fan poll. He was also one of seven players nation-wide selected Division II offensive player of the week by Beyond Sports College Network.
The national attention is a result of his 16-catch, 222-yard, two-touchdown game in a 45-14 rout of Livingstone on Senior Day last Saturday (Oct. 29). The yardage total is a modern school record and the ninth-best in Division II this season. The receptions total is one shy of the modern school mark and is tied for second-highest in Division II this year behind teammate Jamian Smith’s 17 catches.
Richards, who won CIAA receiver of the week Monday (Oct. 31), leads the conference with 6.8 receptions per game and ranks second with 83.4 receiving yards per game. His 54 receptions on the season rank second in the CIAA, and his receptions per game rank 14th nationally.
