Three CIAA Players nominated for HSRN Player of the Week

St. Augustine's Bacote, Shaw's Odom and Elizabeth City State's McNeill all vie for national honor

Hartly, DE –The Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) has announced national player of the week fan poll week seven nominees.  Each week, HSRN will announce a national player of the week from both the top DI-FCS and Division II action.

The top performance each week will be selected and the HBCU fans across the country will get a chance to cast their vote for who they think had the best game.  The Fan Poll is designed to get fans involved with the excitement of the HBCU college football action.  Fans are asked to log on to HSRN.com and cast their vote for the top performance.  Fans can vote on the poll today (Sun., Oct. 16) thru Wednesday (Oct. 19) until 11 am CT. The CIAA nominees are: 

Div. II
Teddy Bacote – St. Augustine’s – QB – 6’3, 200 – SO/Hampton, VA
Bacote was 34-for-47 for 394 yards and three touchdowns. His passing day was the second best by a Falcon in the modern era. Bacote is coming off the heels of a 464-yard passing day against Winston-Salem State the week before which set a modern school mark. Bacote threw what appeared to be the game-winning score in the closing minutes before West Georgia kicked the game-clincher as time ran out. Bacote found Smith for an 18-yard touchdown on fourth down and 18.

Quinshon Odom – Shaw – LB – 6’3, 190 – SO/Lakeland, FL
Odom completed 24 of 42 passes (57%) for 376 yards and three (3) touchdowns.  He was named the HSRN Comet Player of the Game in their  “Game of the Week” broadcast, leading Shaw to 28 unanswered points in their come from behind  35-29 OT win over Fayetteville State.

Daronte McNeill – Elizabeth City St. – RB – 6’2, 215 – JR/Elizabeth City, NC
McNeill picked up 189 yards on 35 carries and three touchdowns.  His efforts in their ground attack helped the Vikings to a 28-7 win over Virginia State, keeping them in the hunt for the Northern Division Championship race for the CIAA Championship game.
