Wesley Edwards (Rochester, NY) of the Winston-Salem State
University baseball team became the first Ram player in modern day
baseball history to sign a professional contract when he inked a
deal with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League
(Independent).
Edwards signed the contract with the Grizzlies on Friday, Oct.
11th. He will report for spring training next April where he
will compete for a job in the starting pitching rotation for the
Grizzlies.
Wesley Edwards was an integral part of the 2011 and 2012
back-to-back CIAA championship teams at Winston-Salem State and
earned a save in the Rams first NCAA tournament win last
April. This past spring he struck out 67 in 57.1 innings of
work and opposing batters only managed to hit .189 against him.
