Fayetteville, NC – The Northern and Southern Divisions of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) are competing in Bowling Event I this Friday - Sunday. The ten (10) CIAA bowling teams are preparing for their conference season opening lane action. This weekend marks the first of 4 official CIAA events as teams head to B&B Bowling Lanes in Fayetteville, NC (hosted by Fayetteville State University).
Matches for this weekend begin on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. and continue Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 8:30 a.m., running through the afternoon both days. Baker Matches will be on Sunday, November 12, 2017 beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m. Prior to the Bakers Match, there will be an awards ceremony at 8:15 a.m.
The event field includes the Northern and Southern Divisions of the CIAA. The Southern Division includes; host Fayetteville State, Livingstone College, Saint Augustine's University, Shaw University, and Johnson C. Smith University. The Northern division includes; Bowie State University, Virginia Union University, Virginia State University, Chowan University, and Elizabeth City State University.
Last years CIAA Championship Runner-Up, Fayetteville State has been predicted the CIAA’s top bowling contender this year. The Broncos completed last season with a 54-8 overall record, sweeping the Southern Division 36-0. Reigning Champion Bowie State has been projected to the #2 position this season and are looking to defend their crown. BSU finished last season with a 52-22 overall record, placing first in the Northern Division with a 29-4 record.
As last season's Player of the Year, senior Jana' Boyd is looking to put up big numbers for Elizabeth City State and is just one of many oustanding CIAA bowlers to watch this weekend.
