Stellar Performances for Fayetteville State Bowling on Day 2 of CIAA Divisional

Fayetteville, NC -- The Fayetteville State University women's bowling team ended the second day of competition as host in the CIAA Divisional II at B&B Bowling Lanes with a perfect 8-0 record in team matches and 9247 total pins. The Lady Broncos defeated Livingstone College (942-463), Shaw (915-624), Saint Augustine’s (1013-578), and Johnson C. Smith (856-756).

Freshman Savannah Starling (Fayetteville, NC) had a remarkable team-high average of 213 in eight total games bowled, including five games of 200 or higher. Freshman Brittany Worthy (Durham, NC) ended the team matches with an average of 203.38. Worthy rolled 236 against Saint Augustine’s, followed by a solid 224-game against Johnson C. Smith.

Senior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC) averaged 197.78 in nine games played over two days. She had 1780 of the Lady Broncos total pins. Junior Lola Neal (Wilson, NC) and sophomore Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) produced superb averages of 170.6 and 167.5, respectively.

Freshman Paige Brayboy (Maxton, NC) and junior Devondra Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) rounded out the FSU superiority with averages of 164.5 and 160, respectively.

Johnson C. Smith placed second in the Southern Division with a 6-2 record and 6857 total pins. Shaw finished third at 3-5 with 6009 total pins, followed by Saint Augustine's with 6091 pins and a 2-6 record. Livingstone concluded the team matches 1-7 with 4826 total pins.

Virginia State dominated the Northern side with an 8-0 record with 9073 total pins. Bowie State completed team matches at 6-2 with 8577 pins, followed by Virginia Union (7342 pins) and Chowan (6856 pins) with records of 3-5. Elizabeth City State ended the event 0-8 with 6114 total pins.

Rebecca Clements had five straight games of 200 or higher performances on day two. She had event highs of a 216.7 average and a 280 game. Starling had the highest average from the Southern Division (213), while Aponte had the highest game rolled from South (279).

The CIAA Divisional Meet II will conclude on Sunday, January 29th with baker's matches. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at B&B Bowling Lanes.
