Fayetteville State Bowling Sits in First Place After Two Days in CIAA Roundup

Richmond, VA – The Fayetteville State University women’s bowling team finished team matches with a 9-1 record at the CIAA Roundup held at the Bowl America Southwest on Saturday, February 11th. The Lady Broncos had a total pin count of 8430 after two days of competition.

On day one, Fayetteville State defeated Virginia Union (836-673), Elizabeth City State (858-562), Chowan (781-657), and Virginia State (900-837). FSU suffered their only loss to Bowie State by a mere three pins (831-828). Freshman Brittany Worthy (Durham, NC) bowled a team-high 244 against the Lady Bulldogs and averaged 195.

Senior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC) rolled games of 224 and 210 with a day one average of 169.8. Freshman and current CIAA Southern Division Rookie of the Month Savannah Starling (Fayetteville, NC) averaged 174.4, including a 210 game against ECSU.

On the second day of competition, FSU had a perfect 5-0 record with win over VUU (811-735), Chowan (841-627), VSU (923-832), ECSU (803-534), and BSU (849-819). Worthy improved her average to 204 for an overall team match average of 199. Junior Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) averaged 174.25 on the second day.

Junior Devondra Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC), freshman Paige Brayboy (Maxton, NC), and junior Lola Neal (Wilson, NC) turned in averages of 156, 153.6, and 143.5 over the two days of team matches.

Fayetteville State will conclude the CIAA Roundup on Sunday, January 12th with Baker matches. All games will be played at the Bowl America Southwest.
