Fayetteville, NC (January 29, 2017) – The Fayetteville State University women's bowling team closed out the third and final day of the CIAA North-South Divisional Meet II with a 4-0 mark in Baker's to complete the event a perfect 12-0 on Sunday, January 29th at B&B Bowling Lanes. FSU had the most total pins in team matches (9,247) and Baker's (4,584) of any of the CIAA schools competing.
Freshman Savannah Starling (Fayetteville, NC) received the Southern Division Highest Freshman Average Award with an average of 213 in team matches. Senior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC) earned the Southern Division Highest Game Bowled (279) and Highest Returner Average (197.78) Awards.
Fayetteville State maintained an unblemished record in Baker's competition on the third day. The Lady Broncos defeated Livingstone (926-479), Johnson C. Smith (944-566), Shaw (898-680), and Saint Augustine's (877-637). FSU rolled a 939 during the bye round for a collective 916.8 team average in Baker’s. This marked the first time in program history that FSU won every single Baker’s game for a flawless 20-0 finish.
Johnson C. Smith placed second in the Southern Division with a 7-5 event record and 3260 total pins in Baker’s. Shaw finished third at 6-6 overall 3465 total Baker’s pins, followed by Saint Augustine's with 3018 total Baker’s pins and a 3-9 event record. Livingstone concluded the Baker’s matches 1-3 with 2545 total pins in Baker’s.
Virginia State led the Northern Division with an 11-1 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in Baker’s and 4447 pins. Bowie State completed the meet at 10-2 with 4422 total Baker’s pins and a 4-0 record on the final day. Virginia Union had 3863 pins in Baker’s (2-2) followed by Chowan with 3449 Baker’s pins and a 1-3 record. Elizabeth City State ended the event winless at 0-12 with 3121 total pins in Baker’s.
FSU will travel to Richmond, VA to compete in the CIAA Roundup held February 10-12, 2017. Virginia Union will host the event at Bowl America Southwest located at 11532 Hull Street Road.
