Bowling Championship Day 2 Concludes as Teams Move to Double Elimination Bracket

Chesapeake, VA (March 16, 2016) – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Bowling Championship continued today as teams finished their Baker Team Matches to finalize seedings for the double elimination championship bracket.  Northern Division Champion Bowie State University earned the No. 1 pick with Virginia State University at No. 2 as teams move in to the final rounds of competition.

Saturday at AMF Western Branch Lanes comprised of five Baker style bowling matches. The defending CIAA Bowling Champion Bowie State Bulldogs led the day going 4-0, bringing their total pin fall to 8,228. BSU’s Day 2 record included a 926-840 victory over Southern Division Champion Fayetteville State University.  Virginia State marked the day closely behind, also going on a 4-0 streak.  In their greatest triumph of the day, the Lady Trojans defeated Elizabeth City State University 918-733.

The Broncos of Fayetteville State secured the No. 3 seed with a 2-3 performance and 3,943 pin fall count.  FSU was barely topped 767-755 by the ladies of Virginia State, but finished with a 718-677 victory over Chowan University.

Rounding out the remainder of the rankings, Elizabeth City State and Chowan University both earned a 3-2 mark on the day while Shaw University and Saint Augustine’s University recorded a 1-4 performance each.  Johnson C. Smith University struggled against their competitors, falling 0-4 on the day.

After teams finished Baker Matches 1-5, the event moved in to the first round of final bracket play.  Bracket play for the remainder of the tournament is also of the Baker format and includes best four out of seven games.

The final day of the 2016 CIAA Bowling Championship will begin tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at AMF Western Branch Lanes. Second round matchups will include BSU vs. ECSU and VSU vs. FSU in the winner’s bracket; JCSU vs. CU and SAU vs. SU in the consolation bracket.
