FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Chowan University bowling team competed in the CIAA North-South Round-Up February 12th-14th. The event, hosted by Fayetteville State University, was held in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Friday and Saturday's scores were based on total pin fall while Sunday's match was a Baker Style match.
The Hawks finished in ninth place out of the ten teams competing in the CIAA Round-Up. Chowan finished with a 5-10 record over the course of three days of play while knocking down 10,728 pins.
Virginia State took home first place honors after finishing the tournament with a 14-1 record and striking 13,900 pins. Bowie State finished in second place with a 12-3 record followed by Elizabeth City State in third with a 10-5 record.
Fayetteville State followed Elizabeth City State with a fourth place finish after compiling a 9-6 record with Johnson C. Smith (8-7) earning a fifth place finish. Virginia Union posted a 7-8 record and sixth place finish. Saint Augustine's ended the weekend 6-9 and in seventh place while Shaw finished in eighth place with a 10-8 record. Finishing behind Chowan, Livingstone concluded the weekend in tenth place with a 0-15 record.
Kiara Thomas led the effort for the Blue and White after knocking down 1,651 pins over the course of three days (165.1 average). Kylie McGrath averaged a 159.3 (1,593 total pins) over the course of the weekend followed by Jomecka Deloatch with a 142.5 average (1,425 total pins). Rebecca Noll and Felice Hewitt averaged 112.2 (1,122 total pins) and 111.2 (1,112 total pins), respectively during the three-day competition.
Chowan returns to action on February 20th when the Hawks compete in Virginia State Trojans Classic.
