ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Day three of the CIAA Northern Division Bowling Event wrapped up on Sunday with Bowie State University and Fayetteville State University each placing first in their respective divisions. The event, hosted by Chowan University, was held in Rocky Mount, North Carolina with Friday and Saturday’s scores based on total pin fall while Sunday’s match was played in the Baker Style format.
Bowie State went undefeated in the CIAA Northern Division for the entire event bringing their record to 12-0 with a total pin count of 11,845. In the Southern Division, Fayetteville State ended the day with a total pin fall of 11,808 and also went undefeated for three days straight bringing their overall record to 9-0.
In the Northern Division, Virginia State University (8-4) finished just behind Bowie State in second with 11,210 total pins. Elizabeth City State University (5-7) placed third after knocking down 10,610 pins. Chowan (4-8) finished in fourth place with 10,539 total pins and Virginia Union University (1-11) rounded out the Northern Division with 9,242 total pins over the three day period for a fifth place finish.
In the Southern Division, Saint Augustine’s University (4-5) finished right behind Fayetteville State in second place with 10,766 total pins. Johnson C. Smith University (4-5) placed third with 10,370 pins knocked down. And rounding out the Southern Division Shaw University (1-8) placed fourth with 10,494 total pins over the course of the event.
The Lady Bulldogs began the weekend event with wins over Chowan (769-675), Virginia Union (754-689), Virginia State (771-760) and Elizabeth City State (762-746) to close out Friday’s (2/5) competition.
Bowie State ran the table again on Saturday (2/6) defeating Chowan (773-743), Virginia State (868-770), Elizabeth City State (713-663) and wrapped up day two with a dominating victory over Virginia Union (736-556).
The defending CIAA Champion Lady Bulldogs recorded a perfect 4-0 record in Sunday’s (2/7) Baker format matches, capturing wins over Chowan (779-731), Virginia Union (877-628), Virginia State (812-745) and concluded the weekend topping Elizabeth City State (794-777).
