ROCKY MOUNT, NC- The Chowan University bowling team finished in fourth place at the CIAA Event II on Sunday afternoon. Bowie State University finished in first place among CIAA Northern Division schools with an undefeated record with Virginia State University and Elizabeth City State University finishing in second and third, respectively.
Virginia Union University rounded out the divisional standings with a fifth place finish.
As a team, Chowan posted a 4-8 overall record with a total pin count of 10,539.
On Friday, the Hawks topped Virginia Union University 761-653. Chowan stood in fourth place after the first day of play with a total pin count of 3,451. In the second day of play, the Hawks defeated Virginia Union 672-628 and battled for a 754-664 victory against Elizabeth City State to move into third place against CIAA Northern Division opponents.
Heading into the final day of play, Chowan held a 3-5 record and total pin count of 7,055.
On Sunday, the final day of competition, the Hawks posted a 1-3 record on the afternoon. Bowie State University handed Chowan a 779-731 setback in the first contest of the day and Virginia State University defeated the Hawks 742-714 in the second. After falling to Elizabeth City State University 800-737, Chowan regrouped to defeat Virginia Union 656-636 to earn a fourth place finish.
The Hawks return to action February 12th-14th. Chowan travels to Fayetteville, North Carolina to compete in the CIAA North-South Roundup.
