Rocky Mount, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's bowling team completed the CIAA second divisional meet this season in first place after the Baker's matches on Sunday, February 7th. FSU went 6-0 in team matches and 3-0 in Baker's matches.
Fayetteville State swept the Southern Division with a total pin fall of 11,808. Junior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC) had a team-high average of 166.6, including a 214 game on day one. Sophomore Lola Neal (Wilson, NC) produced an average of 165.3 in 10 games bowled, including a high of 209 on day two.
Freshman Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) and senior Renee Guischard (Fayetteville, NC) turned in averages of 159.5 and 158.8, respectively with 10 games bowled. Sophomore Devondra Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) rounded out the top five scores with an average of 145.5.
In Baker's play, the Lady Broncos defeated Johnson C. Smith (770-685), Shaw (739-717), and Saint Augustine's (784-659).
Bowie State went undefeated in the CIAA Northern Division for the entire event bringing their record to 12-0 with a total pin count of 11,845.
In the Southern Division, Saint Augustine's University (4-5) finished right behind FSU in second place with 10,766 total pins. JCSU (4-5) placed third with 10,370 pins knocked down. And rounding out the Southern Division Shaw (1-8) placed fourth with 10,494 total pins over the course of the event.
In the Northern Division, Virginia State (8-4) finished just behind Bowie State in second with 11,210 total pins. Elizabeth City State (5-7) placed third after knocking down 10,610 pins. Chowan (4-8) finished in fourth place with 10,539 total pins and Virginia Union (1-11) rounded out the North with 9,242 total pins over the three day period for a fifth place finish.
Fayetteville State will return to the lanes as host of the CIAA North-South Roundup on February 12-14th. Matches will be held at B&B Bowling Lanes in Fayetteville, NC.
