Midlothian, Va. – The Saint Augustine’s University women’s bowling team placed eighth in the VUU Invitational, which was held Friday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 22, at Bowl America Southwest. Virginia Union University hosted the tournament, which featured several highly-regarded bowling teams.
The Lady Falcons did finish ahead of CIAA foes Chowan University (9th), Virginia Union (10th) and Livingstone College (11th). Only Bowie State University (3rd) and Virginia State University (7th) placed higher than the Lady Falcons among CIAA schools.
The Lady Falcons defeated Virginia Union 4-2 and Chowan 4-2 before falling to Virginia State 4-0 in the seventh-place match during Sunday’s Baker Championship Bracket. They entered Sunday seeded ninth after competing in team matches and Baker matches the previous two days. For the tournament, the Lady Falcons totaled 10,178 pins and rolled a 141.4 average.
Valparaiso University defeated Felician College 4-1 to win the VUU Invitational. Defending CIAA champion Bowie State University downed Hampton University 4-1 for third place, and Mount Aloysius College beat Saint Peter’s University 4-0 for fifth place. Chowan toppled Virginia Union 4-1 for ninth place.
Hunter Cannon (Sr./Rocky Mount, NC) led the Lady Falcons with a 154.0 bowling average. She ranked 23rd individually among bowlers who competed in six team matches. Imani Robinson (Jr./Burlington, N.J.) averaged 145.5 to rank 26th.
The Lady Falcons will bowl again in 2016. They will compete in the CIAA Event No. 2 in Rocky Mount, N.C. The event will be held Friday, Jan. 22 through Sunday, Jan. 24.
