Hawks Place 9th At Virginia Union Invitational

Midlothian, Va. - The Chowan University women's bowling team competed in the Virginia Union University Invitational November 20th-22nd. The Hawks finished in 9th place out of 11 teams that competed in the tournament.

Friday featured five-game Baker play format with Saturday's scores based on traditional total pin fall. The tournament wrapped up on Sunday with Baker format using first-to-four bracket play.

Chowan knocked down 4,256 pins on Saturday and totaled 6,006 pins in Baker play for a weekend total of 10,262 pins. The Hawks finished the weekend with a 4-10 overall record with wins over Livingstone College, Virginia Union and St. Augustine's University.

Valparaiso University earned top team honors with a first place finish and 11-0 record with 11,516 total pins.

Kylie McGrath led the Hawks with 942 pins over the course of three days (157.00 average). Kiara Thomas followed with 938 pins (156.33 average) with Monica Hayward in third for the Hawks with 842 pins (140.33).

Ashley Tackett tallied a pin count of 837 over the course of the weekend (139.50 average). Jomecka Deloatch knocked down 612 pins for the Blue and White (122.40 average) followed by Felice Hewitt with 85 pins (85 average).

The Hawks return to action on January 22nd when they compete in their second CIAA Event. The tournament will take place in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
