Lady Bulldogs Bowling Finish Second In Northern Division at CIAA Bowling Event No. 1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Bowie State University women’s bowling team placed second in the Northern Division in the CIAA Divisional Event No. 1 at AMF Centennial Lanes over the weekend (Friday, Nov. 13-Sunday, Nov. 15).

 

The Bulldogs knocked down 11,204 total pins and posted a 9-3 record to finish ahead of Elizabeth City State University (10,364 total pins/7-5 record), Chowan University (10,482 total pins/3-9 record) and Virginia Union University (8,538 total pins/1-11 record). Virginia State University was first with 12,006 total pins and a 10-2 mark.

 

The Lady Bulldogs started successfully on Friday, winning three of four team matches. They dropped the first match to Virginia State (752-713) but rebounded to defeat Elizabeth City State (805-713), Chowan (774-679) and Virginia Union (864-594).

 

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs went a perfect 4-0 against Northern Division teams. They topped Elizabeth City State (753-713), Virginia State (849-769), Virginia Union (694-538) and Chowan (754-645).

 

The Lady Bulldogs concluded the event with a 2-2 record in Baker matches Sunday. Bowie State lost to Virginia State (804-751) and Elizabeth City State (755--709) and ended the event with wins over Chowan (765-721) and Virginia Union (670-591.

 

Freshman Diamond Carter (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the Lady Bulldogs contingency with 173.30 average. Senior Keyandra Bankston (Ft. Belvoir, Va.) ranked second on the team with a 173.10 average and a team high-game of 254 followed by junior Ashley Wade (Richmond, Va.) with a 162.00 average. Redshirt sophomore Sierra Davis (Dayton, Ohio) rolled a personal high-game of 174 and averaged 150.63. Sophomore Makyra Bankston (Ft. Belvoir, Va.) rounded out Bowie State’s top five participants with a 131.86 average.

 

Redshirt freshman Shannon Weaver (Fort Washington, Md.) averaged 111.75 while junior Chloe Riggans (Fort Washington, Md.) sophomore Chantel Farlow (Columbia, Md.) averaged 95.00 and 80.00 respectively.

 

The Lady Bulldogs return to competition next weekend (Nov. 20-22) in the Virginia Union University Invitational in Midlothian, Va.
