Charlotte, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's bowling team opened the 2015-16 season competing in the CIAA South Divisional Meet hosted by Johnson C. Smith University at AMF Centennial Lanes November 13-15th. The Lady Broncos finished in first place out of the four CIAA Southern Division teams. Friday and Saturday's scores were based on total pin fall while Sunday's scoring was accumulated based on Baker format.
FSU ended the weekend with a 7,529 total pin count and a 12-0 record in the tournament. Fayetteville State swept Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone, Saint Augustine's and Shaw in all three days of competition.
Junior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC) won the Southern Division Highest Average Award with an event-high 168.5 average. Freshman Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) received the Freshman Southern Division Highest Average Award averaging 160 in the team matches.
Sophomore Devondra Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) averaged131 in seven matches of team play. Sophomore Lola Neal (Wilson, NC) bowled 145.7 on average in seven games played during the team match competition. Freshman Brianna Meares (Lumberton, NC) debuted with a total pin count of 975 in seven games and a 139 average.
Senior Renee Guischard (Fayetteville, NC) rounded out the scoring for the Fayetteville State with 1320 total pins (146.6 average).
Fayetteville State remained unbeaten after completing baker's matches on the third and final day. FSU defeated Livingstone (814-553), JCSU (702-589), Shaw (720-594), and Saint Augustine's (718-622) in impressive fashion.
FSU returns to the lanes in the New Year with the CIAA North-South Divisional Meet hosted by Chowan University on January 22-24 in Rocky Mount, NC.
