FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The inevitable happened again this weekend.

The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos wrapped up the CIAA Southern Division Bowling championship.

For the ninth straight season and for the 11th time in the last 12 years, Fayetteville State captured a CIAA division title following another unblemished weekend in event play, finishing the three-day competition 15-0 to take the top seed into the CIAA Bowling Championships into Durham next week.

There, the Lady Broncos (66-13, 55-4) will bowl for a shot at their second straight league championship, and third in the last five years.

Three Fayetteville State bowlers finished among the top four in scoring average for the weekend, and six Lady Broncos finished among the top nine at their home B&B Bowling Lanes. Kiara Reid, (Jr., Rocky Mount, N.C.) finished with the highest average at 201.1 and had the event’s high game of 235. Freshman Crystal Mujica (Fr., Fayetteville, N.C.) had the highest rookie average at 192.5, good for second-best for the weekend.

Reid, the CIAA Southern Division bowler of the Month in February, and Mujica were honored following competition, as was senior Kelly Wakerhauser (Portage, Wis.) , whose 173.0 average was eighth-best. It was Wakerhauser’s final home match of her collegiate career.

Also scoring well for the Lady Broncos was 2011 Rookie of the Year De’Andrea Bethea (So., Raleigh, N.C.), who was fourth with a 184.67 average. Daisy Weishman (Jr., Fayetteville, N.C.) was sixth with a 173.1 average and Megan Maynor (Fr., Fayetteville, N.C.) was ninth at 166.88.

Fayetteville State, which won its 600th game under head coach Bobby Henderson in January, topped 60 wins in a single season for the seventh time. With four more wins, Fayetteville State can reach 70 wins in a single season for the fifth time.

Championship play will begin on Friday and finish on Monday, March 26.
