CIAA Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors Following Opening Week of 2026 Season
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 1, 2026) – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has announced its Volleyball Weekly Honors following the opening week of the 2026 season. Elizabeth City State University earned three of the four weekly honors, while Shaw University claimed Setter of the Week.
The CIAA Volleyball Weekly Honors are voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Association.
CIAA VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY HONORS
Rookie of the Week – Valeria Miranda, Elizabeth City State
Freshman | Libero | Garland, Texas
Miranda had an impressive start to her collegiate career, recording 84 digs across four matches at the Bulldog Classic hosted by Barton College. She reached double-digit digs in all four matches, highlighted by 28 digs in a victory over Barton and 24 against Newberry.
Defensive Player of the Week – Christian Bouie, Elizabeth City State
Junior | Middle Blocker | Lockport, Illinois
Bouie opened the 2026 season with a dominant defensive performance, totaling 19 blocks, including 14 solo blocks, across four matches at the Bulldog Classic. She recorded eight total blocks, seven solo, in the season opener and added six total blocks against Newberry.
Offensive Player of the Week – Kendall Washington, Elizabeth City State
Junior | Outside Hitter | Aldie, Virginia
Washington led the Vikings with 46 kills across four matches during opening weekend. She highlighted the weekend with 17 kills and 16 digs in ECSU's season-opening victory over Barton and also totaled seven service aces during the tournament.
Setter of the Week – Justus Alexander, Shaw
Sophomore | Setter | Douglasville, Georgia
Alexander totaled 76 assists over 14 sets during Shaw's four-match appearance at the Ram Rumble hosted by Shepherd University, averaging 5.43 assists per set. She recorded double-digit assists in all four matches, including a weekend-high 29 against Goldey-Beacom, while adding 29 digs and four service aces.
2026 CIAA Volleyball Championship
The 47th CIAA Volleyball Championship will be held November 9–11, 2026, at the Rocky Mount Event Center in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The top eight CIAA teams will meet to compete for the conference title and the opportunity to be crowned the 2026 CIAA Volleyball Champion.
