2026 CIAA Softball Championship Tournament
Bowie State pieced together a pair of key middle innings to rally past Virginia Union, earning a 7–5 victory in CIAA Softball Championship Tournament action.
After two scoreless frames, Virginia Union struck first in the third inning. Jailyn Myrick sparked the rally and later scored as the Panthers plated two runs to take an early lead. VUU added three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by timely offense from Ty’Hiera Wooten and Danasia Sturdivant, to push the advantage to 5–3.
Bowie State responded quickly, using a three-run fourth inning to even the score before breaking the game open in the fifth. The Bulldogs exploded for four runs in the frame to take a 7–5 lead, one they would not relinquish.
Sydney Seals earned the win for Bowie State with a complete-game performance in the circle. Seals allowed four hits and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings. Jenna Nicolski took the loss for Virginia Union after working five innings and allowing seven runs.
Offensively, Bowie State finished with eight hits and aggressive baserunning, while Taylor Dawkins and Presleigh Braxton each crossed the plate during the Bulldogs’ decisive surge.
Virginia Union was led offensively by Jailyn Myrick, who scored twice, and Ty’Hiera Wooten, who added a run as part of the Panthers’ five-run effort. The Panthers played clean defense, committing no errors in the contest.
With the win, Bowie State advanced in the CIAA Softball Championship Tournament to face Lincoln University, while Virginia Union’s postseason run came to an end.
