M'Smrya Seward FSU Most Decorated Track Athlete Sets Sights on Final NCAA National Championship

Fayetteville, NC (May 15, 2024) Fayetteville State University's M'Smrya Seward is gearing up to compete in the 2024 NCAA DII National Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Emporia, Kansas. She will be participating in the long jump event on May 23rd at 6:30 pm. Seward, aiming for her fourth All-American status, currently ranks fifth on the NCAA list of qualifiers with a career-best mark of 6.30m (20'8") achieved at the Dani Palooza Last Chance Meet in High Point, NC.

Throughout her collegiate career, Seward has achieved numerous accolades as a student-athlete at FSU. Notably, she recently secured championship titles in the long, triple, and high jumps at the CIAA Outdoor Championships and earned the Most Valuable Field Athlete award. Before the championship, Seward was named the conference's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.

M'Smrya, a native of Youngsville, NC, has now been honored with the CIAA Indoor Field Athlete of the Year twice, and once for the outdoor seasons. She has also received the Field MVP award twice for Indoor Championships and Outdoor Championships. Seward has a conference count of 13 top-three medal finishes, nine of which are gold.

She has been a member of seven CIAA Championship teams between the indoor and outdoor programs.

Seward initially participated in both softball and track & field during her freshman season in 2020, earning a silver medal in the triple jump at her first conference indoor championship. Over the years, she has continued to excel, earning her first gold medal in the long jump at the 2022 CIAA Outdoor Championships and subsequently securing her first NCAA All-American status by finishing second in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor National Championship.

After focusing solely on track and field and giving up her softball career, Seward achieved dual titles at the 2023 CIAA Indoor Championships and finished fifth in the long jump at her first NCAA Indoor National Championship, earning her second All-American honor. At the 2023 athletics' end-of-year awards ceremony, she was recognized as the Broncos' Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year.

Her third All-American honor was achieved at the 2023 Outdoor National Championship when she finished fourth.

The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will be held at Emporia State University's Welch Stadium from May 23-25. Live results and video will be available at ncaa.com.
