Charlotte, NC (April 22, 2024) - With regular season play concluding, the bracket for the 2024 CIAA Women's Tennis Championship has been set. This year's championship will take place April 26-27 on the campus of Virginia State University. Quarterfinal action begins Friday, April 26 at the Virginia State University Tennis Complex. Advancing teams will compete in the semi-finals on Saturday, April 27th at 9:30am and 11:00am. The championship match will follow at 2:00pm. The tournament is free and open to the public.
The top four teams from the Northern and Southern divisions qualify based on their regular-season overall conference record. The top seed in the North, Bluefield State University (9-0, 10-6), will take on the number four seed in the South, Livingstone College (2-8, 2-9), followed by the number two seed in the South, Johnson C. Smith University (6-2, 6-6), which will face the number three seed in the North, Elizabeth City State University (5-7, 5-9). Next up, the top seed in the South, Shaw University (8-0, 13-4), is on the hunt for its sixth straight title and will take on the number four seed in the North, Bowie State University (3-7, 3-9). The quarterfinals will wrap up with the number two seed in the North, Virginia State University (7-4, 10-6), lining up against the number three seed, Winston-Salem State University (5-5, 5-10). Opening-round games will begin at 10:00 a.m. (ET).
The winner will represent the CIAA in the NCAA regional, with the NCAA DII finals taking place at Sanlando Park on May 20-24, in Altamonte Springs, Florida.The CIAA Women's Tennis Championship dates back to 2001. Shaw University has won 12 of the 17 championship titles including the last five consecutive years. Fayetteville State captured five of the first six titles, the last in 2007.
