CHARLOTTE, NC - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) will host its 2023 Golf Championship on Monday, April 17 – Tuesday, April 18. Eight (8) CIAA men’s golf teams will compete for the 2023 conference title at Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, NC. The event is free and open to the public.
The CIAA Golf Championship opening ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Monday while teams will tee off for Round One at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday will feature the final round with the championship awards ceremony being held at the conclusion of competition.
Fayetteville State, Virginia Union, Livingstone and Virginia State will make up the top four seeds, based on the CIAA Northern and Southern Division tournament results. Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State, Elizabeth City State, and Saint Augustine's round out the field.
Golfers to watch at the upcoming championship includes Caden Hodges of Fayetteville State University, who earned low medalist at the Southern Division Tournament with a 141 stroke total (-1 Par) and finishing with the lowest individual average across the CIAA Southern Division events during the regular season (68.6 average), and Juan Lopez of Fayetteville State, who finished with the lowest individual average of the CIAA Northern Division event with a 214 stroke total (-2 Par).
