Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State's M'Smrya Seward will compete at the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship today in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Seward will participate in the finals of the long jump at 4 pm in the Virginia Beach Sports Center. She will jump second in the second flight of the competition.
M'Smrya "Shea" Seward, a native of Youngsville, NC, enters the meet ranked fourth overall with a qualifying leap of 6.10m (20' 0.25"). She performed this feat on January 20th at the Virginia Beach Marlin Invitational, the current host site of the National Championship.
Seward is no stranger to competing on the national level. This past outdoor season, she earned All-American honors after finishing second in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Allendale, MI. Her jump of 6.22 meters (20' 5") at the meet was a personal best.
This season, M'Smrya Seward won the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Long Jump and Triple Jump titles and finished second in the high jump. She was named the Championship's field MVP and the Conference's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Fayetteville State University won its third consecutive CIAA Indoor Championship title on February 13th.
