CHARLOTTE, NC – As we move into Week #7, let’s look at what’s in store. Here’s a snapshot of what to watch for this Saturday:
Elizabeth City State (1-5 / 0-4 CIAA / 0-1 North) at Lincoln (PA) (3-3 / 2-2 CIAA/ 1-0 North) 1 PM

Elizabeth City State is on a four-game slide while Lincoln (PA) has won their last two contests, and the Lions will be celebrating Homecoming this weekend. Elizabeth City State ranks 8
th in conference scoring (16.7) and 7
th overall in defense (23.0). ECSU Vikings quarterback Donoven Davenport leads the team on offense with 670 passing yards (134.0 yards per game and six touchdowns. The Lincoln (PA) Lions rank third overall in CIAA scoring (31.2) but give up just as many points on defense (30.0), ranking them 10
th in the league. The Lions are led by the CIAA’s leading passer Isaiah Freeman and the league's leading receiver Malachi Langley. Freeman has completed 100-of-166 passes for 1,539 yards (17 touchdowns) and averages 256.5 passing yards per game. Langley has amassed 756 reception yards, scored nine touchdowns and averages 126.0 yards per game.
Saint Augustine’s (0-6 / 0-4 CIAA / 0-1 South) at Johnson C. Smith (4-2 / 3-1 CIAA)/ 0-1 South) 1 PM

Saint Augustine’s is still in search of its first win of the season and will attempt to spoil Homecoming festivities for Johnson C. Smith. The Saint Augustine’s Falcons rank last in conference scoring (5.5 points per game) and have allowed their opponents thus far to average 29.5 points per game. Johnson C. Smith ranks fourth in CIAA scoring (24.3 points per game) and ranks fourth in defense, giving up 15.7 points per game. The SAU Falcons are led by quarterback Anthony Butler’s 524 passing yards. Saint Augustine’s leading tackler is Lee Sales with 42.0 total tackles (28 solo and 14 assisted). JCSU is led on offense by Tyrell Jackson, Jacob Newman and Brevin Caldwell. JCSU’s Golden Bulls leader on defense is Benari Black with 59.0 total tackles this season.
Bowie State (3-3 / 2-2 CIAA / 0-1 North) at Virginia Union (5-1 / 3-1 CIAA / 1-0 North) 1 PM

Bowie State is looking to bounce back after a tough Homecoming loss last week, but the opponent doesn’t get easier as the Bulldogs must now face Virginia Union. The BSU Bulldogs have lost their last two games, but the Bulldogs have won seven of the last 10 meetings against VUU. Virginia Union has been a winner in four of its last five contests. BSU’s Bulldogs rank 7
th in conference scoring (17.7 point per game) and are led offensively by quarterback Amir Jenkins. Jenkins ranks second in league passing (1,066 yards), completing 100-of-160 passes and an average of 213.2 yards per game. Virginia Union currently ranks second in conference scoring (32.5) but ranks first in conference defense, allowing just 13.8 points per game. The VUU Panthers are led by running back Jada Byers and his CIAA leading 112.5 rushing yards average.
Winston-Salem State (2-4 / 2-2 CIAA / 0-1 South) at Shaw (2-4 / 2-2 CIAA / 1-0 South) 1 PM

Winston-Salem State and Shaw will do battle before a nationally televised (HBCU GO) audience this Saturday at Durham County Stadium. The WSSU Rams are on a two-game skid while Shaw picked up a huge Homecoming victory last Saturday. WSSU is averaging 22.8 points per game compared to 13.3 points per game for the SU Bears. The WSSU Rams have two players that rank fourth in league passing (Daylin Lee) and rushing (Asa Barnes). Lee averages 127.1 passing yards per game while Barnes is averaging 65.0 rushing yards per game. Silas Cruse and Patrick Blake are one and two in Shaw Bears passing with 504 and 479 passing yards respectively. Leading Shaw’s ground game is Sydney Gibbs with 310 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Bluefield State (1-5 / 0-4 CIAA / 0-1 North) at Virginia State (6-0 / 4-0 CIAA / 1-0 North) 2 PM

Bluefield State will be the Homecoming opponent for the CIAA’s top team in Virginia State. Bluefield State’s “Big Blue” have dropped five consecutive games since opening the season with a win. Bluefield State returned back to the CIAA this season after a very long absence as Big Blue was one of the original members of the CIAA. Big Blue averages 21.7 points per game and is led by freshman quarterback Jai’qua Hart. Hart ranks third in conference passing with 841 yards and 210.3 yards per game average. Virginia State on the other hand is rolling over teams. The VSU Trojans lead all CIAA schools in scoring with a 37.3 points per game average. The Trojans average 248.5 rushing yards per game and 171.7 passing yards per contest. The last time Virginia State won six consecutive games was during the 2017 season when the Trojans record a record of 10-1 overall and included the CIAA Football crown.
Livingstone (2-4 / 2-2 CIAA / 1-0 South) at Fayetteville State (4-2 / 4-0 CIAA / 1-0 South) 2 PM

Livingstone at Fayetteville State could prove to be a very interesting game. After starting the year 0-4, the Livingstone Blue Bears picked up two huge victories in Weeks 5 and 6. Fayetteville State’s Broncos began the year with back-to-back setbacks but have hit a stride, winning four in a row. Livingstone and Fayetteville State are neck and neck in CIAA scoring with the Blue Bears averaging 16.0 points per game compared to 15.3 points per game for the Broncos. Livingstone is led offensively by quarterback Marcus Drish and the receiving duo of Davontay Deloatch and Matthew Henery. LC’s Jaden Echols and his team leading 52 total tackles pace the Blue Bears on defense. Derrick Alston Jr. is Fayetteville State’s leading ground gainer this season with 267 rushing yards followed by Julian Milligan with 201 rushing yards. The Broncos' defense is led by Kolby Merritt and Dylan Morris with 29 total tackles each.
