PNC Neighborhood Wishlist Project Supports Chowan's Girls and Women in Sport Day
MURFREESBORO- Chowan University's Girls and Women in Sport Day event will receive a $500 grant from the PNC Neighborhood Wishlist Project.
Girls and Women in Sport Day is an annual event held in the spring. Youth in the Roanoke-Chowan community have the opportunity to work with female student-athletes and coaches from Chowan to learn valuable life lessons, as well as improve their athletic skills.
Director of Athletics, Dennis Helsel commented, "Chowan University has a strong history of giving back to the community. It is a great partnership. This PNC Neighborhood Wishlist Project grant allows Chowan Athletics to expand the Girls and Women in Sport Day and reach more participants. We are honored, and of course, excited that the extended Chowan community supported our efforts. The votes of many made all of this possible."
Chowan was selected as one of one hundred finalists to receive funding from the PNC Neighborhood Wishlist Project. Fans, community members, and the general public had the opportunity to select and vote for Chowan's Girls and Women in Sport Day project through Facebook and a PNC app. Each vote for the project counted as one dollar in funding.
The voting process resulted in Chowan receiving 500 votes, equivalent to $500 in funding from the PNC grant.
Deputy Athletics Director Meredith Long, added, "What an awesome effort by countless individuals and groups to help us reach 500 votes in the PNC Neighborhood Wishlist grant program. Because people believed in the cause, we will now get $500 to help fund our annual Girls and Women in Sport Day event. Thank you to all those who voted and to those who helped promote and spread the word. One vote equates to an opportunity to promote the benefits of participation in sports to our Roanoke-Chowan youth."
