Lincoln's student-athletes recognized for academic excellence
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Nine student-athletes from Lincoln University
were among the 4,492 recipients of the 2011-12 Division 2 Athletics
Association (D2ADA) Academic Achievement Award on Wednesday.
The Academic Achievement Awards is a program which highlights the
academic accomplishments of D2 student-athletes.
Sarah Danaher (Waitsfield, Vt./Harwood Union HS) (bowling and
softball), Shari Davis (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park HS) (women's
tennis), Ashley Durr (Waldorf, Md./Gwynn Park) (softball), Gerald
Foster (P.G. County, Md./Oxon Hill HS) (football), Jordan Jones
(Miami, Fla./North Miami Beach HS) (football), Trevor Kamhunga
(Harare, Zimbabwe/Churchill HS) (men's soccer), Mariah Liberty
(Waterbury, Vt./Harwood Union HS) (women's soccer and softball),
Michael Sangster (Belize, C.A/Sacred Heart College) (men's soccer
and tennis) and Brucelee Sterile (Miami, Fla./North Miami Beach HS)
(football) made the list for the Lions.
“I am delighted that the D2ADA has recognized these Lincoln
University student-athletes who have diligently worked to establish
themselves as scholars amongst their peers,” said Sherese
Parker, Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services in
Student Affairs. “They will be the first Lincoln
student-athletes to be recognized with this distinction and I am
sure they will not take the honor lightly.”
Parker said that she is also looking forward to more
student-athletes meeting the D2ADA's criteria of academic
excellence, which is the mantra and legacy of Lincoln
University.
