CIAA Fall Sports: Coaches of the Year Selected

Hampton, VA...The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has selected its Fall Coaches of the Year for 2008. Each coach is awarded this honor by their respective coaches associations in conjunction with the CIAA Executive Committee.
Cross Country- Men and Women
2009 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year, Michelle Latimer of Bowie State University led the Bulldogs (42pts) to the 2009 Men's Cross Country Championship. Latimer is key to the progression of her Bulldog; from a second place 2008 finish to this year's title. This was Bowie State's first men's CIAA title win.
Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, George Williams of St. Augustine's College claims the honor this year; having led his Lady Falcons to a second place finish (44pts). Williams was also the 2008 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Volleyball
Head Coach of Elizabeth City State University, Linda Bell, repeats as the 2009 Volleyball Coach of the Year. Coach Bell and the Lady Vikings (8-0,13-1,20-14) finished at the top of the Eastern Division and enter this year's championship tournament as conference title defenders
Football
After winning the Western Divisional title, and a berth in the CIAA Football Championship Game, Kenneth Phillips takes home the 2009 Football Coach of the Year award. The Broncos finished the season with a 6-1, 7-3 record and boasts the CIAA Special Teams Player of the Year, place kicker Austin Turner.
The Fall Coaches of the Year will be formally honored at the CIAA Coach of the Year Luncheon, held at the Spring General Assembly Meeting in May.
