RICHMOND, VA - In a press conference earlier this afternoon, Dave Robbins stepped down as the head coach of the VUU men's basketball team after 30 seasons. Robbins, who has two years remaining on his contract, will continue to work in VUU's athletic department as the Senior Director of Athletic Development. In the same press conference Willard Coker, a long-time assistant with the basketball program was named Robbins' successor. Coker has spent 23 seasons as an assistant coach under Coach Robbins.
Coker was a 4-year varsity letterwinner at Virginia Union University. During his tenure as a player, he was a member of the VUU's first NCAA National Championship team (1980). "I am thankful to the University for allowing me to have this opportunity" said Coker.
