CIAA Coaches Honored: Announcing 2008 Spring Coaches of the Year

Hampton, VA...The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's
Executive Committee, in conjunction with the respective Sports
Coaches Associations, selected this year's Spring Sports Coaches of
the Year this morning.
Torrie Lashley of Virginia State University was voted Softball
Coach of the Year. The Lady Trojans entered the CIAA
Tournament at the first seed in the Eastern Division. The
Eastern Division Champions finished as championship runners-up with
a final record of 8-0, 14-2, 25-15.
Merrill Morgan joins the ranks of this year's best as the 2008
Baseball Coach of the Year. The defending CIAA Champions
finished this season with a repeat performance, clinching CIAA
bragging rights for another year. VSU's final record: 9-7,
17-23.
Sunday Enitan of Shaw University celebrates his fifth consecutive
Men's Tennis Coach of the Year recognition. Coach Enitan led
the CIAA powerhouse Bears to the Men's conference title this
season, and an appearance in the NCAA Div. II Men's Tennis
Post-Season. This is Enitan's 4th Back to Back Championship
in the men's field. The Shaw Bears finished the regular
season as an undefeated squad in conference play 4-0, 9-0,
11-5.
Coach Dr. Linda Person of Virginia State University steered the
Lady Trojans to their first-ever CIAA Women's Tennis Championship
this season. This season's Women's Tennis Coach of the Year,
celebrated a perfect season against conference opponents; with only
one non-conference loss 8-0, 13-0, 17-1.
The fourth Trojan leader, Jeff Hamilton of Virginia State
University, has been selected as the Golf Coach of the Year.
Hamilton brought the 2008 CIAA Championship trophy home to Virginia
State; the institution's first-ever Golf Championship
Title.
The Men's and Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach of
the Year, George Williams of St. Augustine's College, led the men's
indoor (218) and outdoor teams (261) to CIAA championship
titles. The Lady Falcons finished on top in indoor (151) as
well as outdoor track (181). The Falcons won the NCAA Division II
National Championship Title this season- their third-straight
title, while the Lady Falcons team finished second in the
nation.
The 2008 CIAA Coaches of the Year will be honored at the Annual
CIAA Coach of the Year Luncheon on May 20, 2008 at the Durham
Marriott at the City Center, Durham, NC.
