The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-2) gave a solid effort, but the team could not stop the Morehouse Tigers (3-0) in an 87-72 loss in the opening game of the CIAA/SIAC Challenge hosted by Shaw University on the campus of Shaw University. The Rams took the loss behind a solid shooting effort, but the team could not find a way to stop the scorching hot Maroon Tigers.

After an extremely successful regular season, the Winston-Salem State Rams (19-7, 14-2 CIAA) will begin their quest for a conference championship at the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Championship Tournament this weekend. After finishing the regular season with a 19-7 overall record and a 14-2 record in CIAA play, the Rams are in prime position to claim their second CIAA championship in three seasons.

The Winston-Salem State Rams were honored for a stellar 2017 regular season as five Rams were named to the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Conference team. The Rams had a pair of players to earn first team All-CIAA honors while a trio of Rams earned second team All-CIAA honors. There was also a Rams duo to earn CIAA All-Rookie honors as well.

After a successful playing career, former Winston-Salem State Rams softball player Mercedes Hargett will begin her coaching career as she was named as an assistant softball coach at Alabama A&M University. She will begin immediately with the Lady Bulldogs program, an NCAA Division I school.

The Rams took the loss in spite of a stellar defensive effort, especially in the fourth quarter of the hard-fought loss.

The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-1) used a stellar second half performance to overcome a 15-point deficit and claimed a 66-59 win over the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats (1-1), Sunday to close out the Conference Challenge. The Rams scored 22 third quarter points along with 21 fourth quarter points to claim their first win of the season.

You can always expect a thrilling game when the Winston-Salem State Rams (6-3, 4-2 CIAA) and the Shaw Bears (3-6, 2-4 CIAA) hit the gridiron and Saturday?s game was no different as the Rams took a 27-21 overtime win over the Bears. After playing to a 21-21 tie at the end of regulation, WSSU sophomore running back Jahiz Linebarger broke out for a 20-yard touchdown run in overtime to give the Rams a homecoming victory.
