BOWIE STATE SID TAKES A DIFFERENT DIRECTION

BOWIE, MD, May 21, 2003---After nine years on the job, Bowie State University's award-winning sports information director Scott Rouch is writing his final press release as he and his wife Melanie head to Wuerzburg, Germany.

The 35-year-old native of Bowie, MD, was the 2002 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Sports Information Director of the Year, the highest honor he achieved during his nine years with the Bulldogs. He was a member of COSIDA, the national sports information director's association, as well as CIAA-SIDA and BCSIDA, the Black College Sports Information Director's Association. Rouch was also the coordinator for the Daktronics Women's South Atlantic All-Region Team the past four years.

During his time with the Bulldogs, Rouch was able to publicize conference champions in women's basketball (3), baseball (2) and men's basketball, including the men's trip to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2003. In the 1990s, Rouch produced a weekly coaches show that ran on Home Team Sports (Comcast Sports Net) for two years and produced two years of radio broadcasts for football and basketball.

"It's been my pleasure to serve Bowie State University in my capacity as sports information director," said Rouch. "I loved working with the dedicated individuals in our conference and throughout the country in a profession that boasts some of the hardest workers in collegiate athletics. I've also had the chance to see a number of young people develop from student-athletes into respected members of different communities and that is what I will carry with me most. The chance to deal with athletic programs on a day-to-day basis was like a dream come true for a sports fan such as myself, and I wouldn't trade that for anything. It will be nice to sit back and be able to watch a live sporting event without being involved, although I will probably miss being near the action."

The search for a new sports information director will begin immediately.
