Shaw's Fillingham Named CIAA Sports Information Director of the Year

(Newport News, VA) - Shaw University's Sherri Fillingham was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Sports Information Director of the Year at the conference's annual banquet at the Marriott at City Center Tuesday.

The John Holley Sports Information Director of the Year Award is presented by the conference based on a vote by the members of the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association.  Fillingham is finishing her second year as Sports Information Director at Shaw.

During the 2010-2011 season, Fillingham launched a completely revamped athletics website (www.shawbears.com), and provided the public relations support for NCAA appearances by the Shaw football, men's and women's basketball, and men's tennis teams - including a Final Four appearance by the Lady Bears basketball team.  In all, Fillingham has the responsibility for publicizing all 13 intercollegiate sports Shaw sponsors.

Prior to taking the reins of the Sports Information Director in 2009, she had worked at Shaw for 18 months in another capacity.  She holds a Masters of Sports Administration degree from Ohio University and a Bachelors of Science in Journalism (Public Relations), also from Ohio.
