VSU'S JUNOT PLACES SECOND, THIRD IN DISTRICT IN COSIDA WRITING CONTEST

Virginia State University's Sports Information Director, Jim Junot, has placed second and third in District 3 of the Fred R. Stabley, Sr., Writing Contest sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Junot placed for the stories "1918: The Year Football Stopped," which placed second and "VSU's One-Armed All-American,." which placed third.

"1918: The Year Football Stopped" told the story of the 1918 football season, the only season where the CIAA chose to forgo football because of World War I and the influenza pandemic.

"VSU's One-Armed All-American" told the story of Theodore Vasser, who played football for the Trojans from 1945-48, and was named to the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper in 1947. Vasser was eventually inducted into the VSU Hall of Fame in 1991.

Both articles placed in the "Best Historical Feature" category.

Division 3 covers all entries from colleges, universities and organizations dealing with NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA.

These awards are the 10th and 11th writing awards for Junot, including two national second-place finishes the past two years.
