Ware Named CIAA Broadcaster of the Year
March 5, 2007
Donal Ware has been named CIAA Broadcaster of the Year as voted
by the CIAA-Sports Information Director's Association. Ware,
32, is the founder and CEO of DWCommunications, LLC, which is the
rights holder and producer of the nationally syndicated sports talk
show FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. Ware also hosts the
show, whose focus is HBCU Sports. He has been Shaw
University's play-by-play man for football, and men's and women's
basketball games since 2004 and serves as the "voice" of the Shaw
Bear Sports Radio Network.
"I am extremely honored to have been the recipient of this
prestigious award," said Ware. "FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS
Row is near and dear to me and is a show that brings light to
HBCUs. It is also an honor to be able to call Shaw University
games on the radio especially coming after a CIAA legend such as
the late Chester Davis. Shaw University and WSHA 88.9-FM have
allowed me to continue to hone my skills as a play-by-play
man."
"I would also like to thank WAUG-AM 750, which is the flagship
station of FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW and is the only original
affiliate since the show's inception in 2005."
A 1998 graduate of Morgan State University, he began his broadcast
career in 1997 as an analyst during Morgan State University
football and basketball games under the direction of the "voice" of
Morgan State athletics Lamont Germany. In 2001, he called
play-by-play for North Carolina A&T basketball games.
During that year he also called the first and only baseball game
ever broadcast in the history of N.C. A&T. In 2004, Ware
formed the Shaw Bear Sports Radio Network.
Ware has also had many freelance opportunities. He was the
play-by-play man for the Aggie-Eagle Classic on Raleigh's 850 the
Buzz in 2005 and is an occasional guest on The Sports Reporters,
which airs in the Triangle on 620 the Bull. He helped form
the Howard University Sports Network in 2005, which broadcasted
Howard football games for the first time in over 20 years.
More recently he served as the play-by-play man for the semi-finals
and finals of the 2007 CIAA Tournament on WRJD-AM 1410 in
Durham.
Ware also served as the assistant athletic director for sports
information/marketing at Shaw for three years.
