Honors Announced:
2011 All-CIAA Teams, Rookies and Players of the
Year
Hampton, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, in conjunction with the CIAA Softball and Baseball Coaches Associations, has announced its selections for the 2011 All-Conference, All-Rookie Teams and Players of the Year.
This year’s teams are led-off with CIAA Softball Player of the Year, Tricia Gorman of Chowan University
(Sr./1B/5-9/Psychology/Ambridge, PA) and CIAA Baseball Player of the Year, Rashad Ingram, hailing from St. Augustine’s College (Sr./SS/6-0/Computer Info. Systems/Savannah, GA).
Gorman, tops the conference in total hits and RBIs with 66 and 77, respectively. With 151 at bats, the senior Hawk also leads CIAA competition with 104 total bases and four sacrificed flies.
Falcon veteran Rashad Ingram dominates several conference statistical categories including first in batting average, .404; runs scored with 66; hits at 65; stolen bases with 74; steal attempts 80 and 207 total plate appearances.
The All-Rookie Teams are headlined by CIAA Softball Rookie of the Year, Adria Lewis, a Bowie State University Lady Bulldog (Fr./Utility/5-6/ Biology/Cumberland, MD) and CIAA Baseball Rookie of the Year, Colby Wiggins of the Chowan University Hawks. (Fr./2B/5-10/Exercise Science/Gloucester, VA).
Lewis has made monumental contributions for the Lady Bulldogs, having scored 31 runs, logged 40 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs and 37 RBIs. The Hawks’ Wiggins is 16-for-18 in stolen base attempts; with 28 runs, 38 hits, six doubles and 23 RBIs.
The All-Conference and Rookie Teams will be honored at the 2011 CIAA Spring Sports Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 20 at 6:00pm on the campus of Virginia State University.
