CIAA VOLLEYBALL SEMIS SET FOR SATURDAY

Fayetteville State, Chowan Go Undefeated in Pool Play; Advance as Top Seeds in Semifinal Matchups

HAMPTON, VA- The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos and Chowan University Lady Hawks were perfect in pool play in day one action at the 2009 CIAA Volleyball Tournament at the Boo William Sportsplex.

The Lady Hawks, who won the CIAA Western Division, were the most impressive of all the teams Friday, sweeping each of their matches (Virginia Union, St. Augustine's, Virginia State) to advance to Saturday's semifinal meeting with Elizabeth City State. The Lady Vikings, who were the top seed in Pool A, fell to Fayetteville State in the final match of the evening setting up a meeting with Lady Hawks at 7:00pm Saturday. Chowan was the only CIAA team to defeat ECSU in the regular season.

Fayetteville State and St. Augustine's will begin semifinal play at 5:00pm at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. Like ECSU, the Lady Falcons posted a 2-1 record on day one to advance out of the double elimination rounds.

On Friday all but two matches (Shaw/Bowie State and ECSU/FSU) were 3-0 sweeps. A complete list of day one results are as follows.
