Day Two Women's Singles Results

Petersburg, VA - The finals match-ups are set in the women's
singles competition for the 2008 CIAA Tennis Championships. Five
student-athletes from Fayetteville State and Virginia State
advanced to the championship match on Thursday afternoon from the
tennis complex at Virginia State University.
CIAA Women's Player of the Year Ines Nieves (FSU) will face
second-seed Livia Oliveira (Shaw) in the finals at the number one
singles position.
Nieves defeated Imani James of Virginia State in two sets 6-3; 6-4
in the semifinals and Oliveira topped Jennifer Lee of Johnson C.
Smith 6-3;
6-2 to set the stage for the championship.
All-conference selections Donna Johnson (VSU) and Constance Lee
(FSU) will square-off for the title at the number two singles
position.
Johnson defeated fourth-seed Jae Hargett (JCSU) 7-5; 6-0 and Lee
beat the third-seed Juanique Thompson of Shaw University in
two sets 6-2; 6-2.
Nine of the twelve student-athletes that have advance to the
championship match were all-conference selections this year.
The championship matches will begin on Saturday morning on the
campus of Virginia State University. A complete listing of the
